When I was a teenager, there were key people in my life who told me that I was valued, created for a purpose, and loved beyond measure. These words were like an anchor and a healing balm during years that were for the most part confusing, emotionally overwhelming, and full of change. I now have the joy of speaking words like these over the teenage girls I work with in the West End of Glasgow, hoping that they too will be built up and strengthened by the power of repeated truth whatever their experience of teenage life may be.

Glasgow is an amazing city, and my absolute favourite. I think its true that the people make it what it is, with all their beauty and brokenness. And in the midst of Glasgows crowds, streets, and schools we find the women of tomorrow. Some of us have the privilege to meet them in different spaces of their lives, whether as parents, youth workers, friends, church leaders, coaches, or teachers. Diamonds Scotland exists to invite young women into shared space, and help them discover who theyve been made to be.

In January last year, Ruth invited a group of women from different areas and lines of work to meet and discuss the possibility of starting Diamonds Scotland in Glasgow. We met to talk and pray and dream together about what Diamonds could look like in our city; and a core team was formed. For Ruth, the decision to begin and lead a Glasgow Diamonds Scotlandteam was a while in the making. Having met with Bridget at the Deep Impact youth workersconference a couple of years ago, she found that she really resonated with Diamonds Scotland’s vision to help young women become rooted in their God-given identity. Through volunteering a few times at Diamonds in Aberdeen, she has grown to love the way the events, in their focus on young women, speak right to the heart of teenage girlsexperience. God prompted and guided her towards setting the wheels in motion, and rally a community of leaders to help bring Diamonds Scotland Glasgow to life.

Diamonds will be hosting their first event in Glasgow in June this year. We are so excited to see a Diamonds Scotland community grow in Glasgow, bringing together leaders and young women from all over the city. Please pray for us as we pursue God in His plans for the young women of Glasgow, and watch this space for information about our upcoming vision evening, and first big event!
